The FedEx / Customs Courier Scam: How Fake Officers Steal Millions

A seemingly normal day is disrupted by an automated phone call claiming to be from FedEx or Indian Customs. The robotic voice states that a parcel sent in your name containing illegal drugs or fake passports has been intercepted. You are then transferred to a "Cyber Police Officer" or "CBI Official" who threatens you with immediate arrest.

This is the FedEx Courier Scam, one of the most lucrative and terrifying cyber frauds currently operating in India.

How the Scam Unfolds

1. The Panic Call: Scammers spoof official police or courier phone numbers. They claim your Aadhaar card is linked to an international money laundering case.
2. The Fake Interrogation: You are forced onto a Skype or WhatsApp video call. The scammers are dressed in police uniforms and sit in rooms designed to look like real police stations.
3. The "Digital Arrest": They instruct you not to disconnect the call or talk to anyone, keeping you under constant surveillance (termed as 'digital arrest').
4. The Security Deposit: Finally, they demand you transfer all your bank balance to a "secret RBI safe account" for verification, promising to return it in 30 minutes. Once you transfer the money, they vanish.

Immediate Steps to Take

If you receive such a call, disconnect immediately. Real police or customs officials will never interrogate you over Skype or demand money to a bank account for "verification."

1. Do not pay a single rupee. Government agencies never ask for RTGS or IMPS transfers for bail or clearance.
2. Call 1930: The National Cyber Crime helpline is the only official government channel.
